FIELD NOTE 10 / Early progression

Honeycomb Basic Immunity Pump & Creature Comforts

Prepare for the Creature Comforts bed-rest step, equip the Basic Immunity Pump, and recover immunity with shelter and IM-X supplies.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Craft the Basic Immunity Pump and equip it in your inventory. It provides early environmental resistance for short expeditions; it does not make outdoor immunity management disappear. Around the Creature Comforts bed-rest transition, the starting antibiotics expire. Recover inside EON-sealed structures or use IM-X-rich fruit, and keep your return route short.

Before you begin

  • Creature Comforts progression and access to the pump recipe
  • A usable shelter to return to
  • Food, drinking supplies and room for useful plant material

Prepare before the bed-rest objective

The opening protection is temporary. Early antibiotics shield Hennessy from Sota7's pathogens, but that protection ends around the Creature Comforts objective to rest in your bed. Outdoor trips then become an immunity-management problem as well as a food-and-water problem.

Before taking that next step, make the base useful: establish its services, know where you can recover and put supplies where you can collect them quickly. Bring your short collection route back toward that base. Spending the transition far from a functioning shelter makes every later shortage harder to solve.

  • Have a usable route back to an EON-sealed interior.
  • Keep drinking supplies and food ready for the next trip.
  • Check the Basic Immunity Pump recipe and gather the ingredients it displays.
  • Keep potential IM-X supplies separate from ordinary food.

Crafting and equipping are separate steps

Making the item is not the final action. After crafting the Basic Immunity Pump, take it into your inventory and use its equip option. Check that the equipment state changed before leaving the base. An unequipped pump in a backpack is not the same preparation as wearing it.

  1. Open the unlocked pump recipe and check the required materials.
  2. If stored ingredients are not recognized, move them into personal inventory and check again.
  3. Complete the craft and take the finished pump.
  4. Equip it from inventory.
  5. Start with a short trip and watch immunity while preserving a route home.

For a station that cannot see your supplies, use the nearby-storage diagnostic. Rebuilding the pump is not the first response to ingredients sitting outside a station's reach.

Resistance, recovery and food do different jobs

Food and drinking suppliesNutrition and hydrationCarry these separately from your immunity plan

Do not treat any juicy fruit as an IM-X item. For example, Sunbeam Lumus helps with hydration, while Cobalt Sargent is an IM-X plant associated with the Headlands. A later-region plant is a planned collection target, not a reason to leave a struggling new character's safe area.

Why immunity can still fall with the pump equipped

The basic pump provides limited resistance. Immunity continuing to fall outdoors does not, by itself, prove that the item failed. First check that it is equipped, then shorten the trip and return to recovery rather than testing how long you can remain outside.

Difficulty also matters. Survivalist and Space Hell deplete vital stats faster than Scientist; Engineer settings can change immunity drain. Use the current run's behavior to set your turnaround point. Someone else's comfortable trip duration is not a safe timer for a different mode.

Use each return to prepare the next expedition

Recover before starting another collection run. Replace the supplies you spent, process useful samples and choose one resource target for the next outing. Check whether you need immunity support, hydration or a crafting ingredient before selecting which plant to collect.

Once the basic routine works, use regional expedition planning to extend it gradually. Reliable recovery and repeated short trips let you build a stronger supply chain without turning every journey into an emergency.
