Honeycomb Fertilizer: Canine Teeth, Horn Shards & Bone Meal

Resolve the missing fertilizer ingredient: find Canine Teeth near Canul nests, collect Horn Shards, and separate Bone Meal crafting from biomass production.

THE SHORT ANSWER

If you have biomass and horns but cannot finish the fertilizer route, look for Canine Teeth. They are the other animal material needed for Bone Meal alongside Horn Shards. Search near Canul nests, identify the teeth, then return to the Bone Meal recipe before continuing fertilizer production.

Before you begin

  • The fertilizer and Bone Meal recipe steps
  • An Analyzer, room for animal materials and a safe return route
  • A separate biomass supply for the fertilizer progression

Collect materials from your own settled nests

Hotfix #5 lets built Canul and Strider nests produce their animal materials after animals move in. For an established base, inspect those settled nests before making another long collection trip. An unoccupied nest does not yet meet that condition.

Check which ingredient the recipe is missing, then collect from the matching nest. The built-nest change adds a source of animal materials; it does not remove the Bone Meal step or replace Composter biomass.

The missing ingredient belongs to the Bone Meal step

Check which recipe is actually blocked. Fertilizer progression involves biomass and animal materials, but the unfamiliar ingredient can be inside the intermediate Bone Meal recipe. If Horn Shards are already identified, the other material to look for is Canine Teeth.

This distinction saves an unfocused collection trip. More biomass will not identify the tooth material, and collecting another horn will not reveal the remaining ingredient. Open Bone Meal, inspect the unidentified slot and use the named animal material as your next collection goal.

Fertilizer and fertiliser refer to the same crafting problem here. Whichever spelling led you to the guide, follow the intermediate recipe before trying to complete the final production step.

Where to find Canine Teeth

Inspect the ground near Canul nests for Canine Teeth. Identify the pickup with the Analyzer so you know you have the material requested by the recipe. Scanning a nearby creature and identifying a loose material are different actions.

  1. Prepare enough supplies to reach the nest area and return.
  2. Observe the animals before moving into the collection area.
  3. Inspect nearby pickups and identify Canine Teeth.
  4. Collect the material you need, then check the Bone Meal recipe.
  5. Leave once you have resolved that ingredient instead of extending the encounter for unrelated samples.

If you already have the Dart Gun and the appropriate wildlife sleep ammunition, prepare them before approaching a risky nest. Plant Booster Darts serve a different purpose; plant ammunition is not the tool for controlling a wildlife encounter.

Where to look for Horn Shards

Inspect the ground around natural Strider nests for the horn material. The Imperial Strider is associated with stone formations in the Headlands and naturally shed horns. Search the surrounding ground and identify what you find instead of chasing a fleeing animal.

Keep the identified material for Bone Meal, then check whether teeth are still missing. If you already have horns, use the Canul collection route above. The two animal materials answer different slots in the crafting chain.

Plan the trip around the region, not just the animal's temperament. A cautious Strider does not remove the food, water and immunity cost of reaching the Headlands and coming back.

Keep biomass production separate from animal-material collection

For biomass, dig a spare plant out of a Grow Bed or use the Composter route introduced by Second Life. The Composter becomes part of your progression after Miracle Season: build it, supply plant matter and wait for the output.

Preserve replacement seeds and useful research plants before turning a crop into biomass. With plant rotting disabled, the Grow Bed route avoids waiting for carried plants to decay. Follow the biomass and Composter guide for the production checkpoints.

After identifying the materials, follow the quantities and crafting locations shown by your current recipes. Make the required intermediate material, then return to the fertilizer objective. Keeping those stages separate makes it clear which next action will actually unblock the craft.
